HÅG Capisco – the questions we are asked most in advice and in the showroom
Since 2011 we have been answering the same questions on the telephone and in Geyer. Here are the answers – with the figures from the HÅG price list, not from the brochure. What we cannot substantiate, we do not claim.
Adjustment and sitting
What is the right height to sit at?
Higher than on an ordinary office chair. The saddle only works once your hips are clearly above your knees – then the pelvis tips forward and the lumbar spine straightens of its own accord. Set the Capisco to a familiar chair height and you will sit worse than before. That is adjustment mistake number one. So: raise the chair first, then bring the desk up to it.
From what desk height does the Capisco work?
Flokk recommends it for desks from 72 cm upwards and expressly for height-adjustable workplaces. With the standard gas lift (200 mm) the seat height runs from 46 to 64 cm.
Which gas lift is the right one?
The gas lift determines the height, not the model. 150 mm for shorter people and low desks (no surcharge), 200 mm as standard, 265 mm for standing desks, counters and workbenches (€14 list surcharge). Flokk only approves the tall lift together with glides or braked castors and a step-up aid – StepUp or Quickstep cost extra. In detail: everything about the gas lift.
Can I also sit facing backwards?
Yes – astride, chest to the backrest, forearms resting on it. For screen work, drawing and the workbench it is a fully-fledged second posture. On the 8107 you take the headrest off for this; it sits exactly where you want to lean.
How long does it take to get used to?
One to two weeks. The saddle calls on muscles that barely work on a normal chair – a pulling sensation in the buttocks and thighs over the first few days is normal. Use it alternately with standing at first and readjust the height after a few days; almost everybody then goes higher.
Equipment
Are there armrests?
No, in no version. The price list lists armrests only for the SoFi, Creed, Futu and Tion. On the Capisco this is deliberate: armrests would get in the way of freedom of movement and changes of direction. If you need armrests, another model will serve you better – we will show you which one.
Which castors for which floor?
Hard castors for soft floors (carpet), soft castors for hard floors (parquet, tiles, vinyl). You select the floor in the configurator on the product page. Wipe the castors from time to time – dirt on the tread attacks the floor, and the manufacturer accepts no liability for that.
Is the Capisco available as an ESD chair?
Yes: the 8106 and the Puls models 8001 and 8010. Cover in antistatic imitation leather or Hi-Tech in black, base and gas lift in silver only, price group 6 plus 10%, always delivered assembled, five years of warranty. The 8107 is not available as an ESD version.
Which accessories are worth having?
| Accessory | List figure |
|---|---|
| Footring, 450 mm diameter | €162 – for a high seating position |
| StepUp / Quickstep | €237 / €180 – step-up aid, mandatory with the 265 mm gas lift |
| Polished aluminium base | €176 |
| Glides instead of castors | €0 |
| Telescopic gas lift cover | €21 |
| Decorative stitching | €136, 8105/8106/8107 only |
| Chair hanger | €28, 8106 only |
Load, warranty, spare parts
Is the Capisco suitable for shift work?
No. The warranty applies with a maximum of nine hours of use a day, and the lifetime gas lift warranty expressly does not extend beyond that. Continuous operation is tested by BS 5459-2 – from the HÅG range the SoFi, Executive and Futu meet it. For control rooms we stock chairs approved for the purpose.
Up to what weight?
110 kg, tested to EN 1335 on the basis of eight hours of daily use. 150 kg applies only to chairs to BS 5459-2.
Why do two identical Capisco chairs cost different amounts?
Because the cover determines the price. Flokk grades them in seven price groups; on the 8106 the list range runs from €1,072 (PG 1) to €1,644 (PG 7) with identical technology. Saving means saving on the fabric, not on the chair. All covers at a glance.
How long are spare parts available?
At least ten years from the production date, for every part that preserves the original function. Castors, gas lifts and covers can be reordered individually – spare parts and replacement covers. The warranty is void if third-party parts are used; do not open the seat mechanism yourself.
How long is the warranty on the cover?
Standard collection (Xtreme, Select, Capture, Oceanic, Cura Loop, Paloma, Elmosoft): ten years. Extended collection (Fame): five years. Fabrics on request: no warranty on the upholstery. Always on condition of normal use and normal cleaning.
What do I have to look after?
Wipe the castors, tighten the bolts occasionally, clean the cover as the manufacturer specifies. More on this: castors, glides and care.
How sustainable is the chair?
Flokk is certified to ISO 14001, environmental product declarations are available for most HÅG models, along with Möbelfakta and GREENGUARD Gold. On the Puls, the black is made from recycled polypropylene and the brown from melted-down snowplough markers. The strongest factor, though, is reparability: ten years of spare parts instead of a new purchase.
