Setting up the HÅG Capisco properly – in five steps

Set up wrongly, a Capisco sits worse than an ordinary office chair. Set up properly, it is one of the few on which you stay in motion all day. The difference is the order.

The order

  1. Seat height – higher than you are used to. Sit astride the saddle and raise it until your thighs slope clearly downwards and your hips sit above your knees. Only then does the pelvis tilt forward and the lumbar spine straighten.
  2. Bring the desk up to it. Not the other way round. Flokk recommends desks from 72 cm upwards; at a height-adjustable desk, set the top so that your forearms lie level.
  3. Seat depth. Leave a gap between the front edge of the saddle and the back of your knee. The saddle carries you, it does not press.
  4. Backrest. On the 8106 and 8107 it adjusts between 39 and 48 cm. It belongs at the sacrum – support for the lower back, not a surface to lean your shoulders on.
  5. Tilt resistance. The inBalance mechanism lets your upper body move back with you. Set it so that you can lean back without being pushed away.

The monitor last: you are now sitting higher. If the screen does not follow, you give back the neck you have just gained.

The 8105 has height adjustment only – which is why it costs less and is intended as a standing seat for workbench and counter.

The three most common mistakes

1. Too low

By far the most common. At the office-chair height you are used to, you sit on the saddle as if on a narrow chair – pressure in the wrong places, no straightening effect. If a Capisco feels uncomfortable, it is almost always set too low.

2. Backrest too high

The short backrest belongs low. Set too high, it presses into the middle of your back instead of supporting it.

3. Desk not adjusted

A higher chair with an unchanged desk means hunched shoulders. Either the desk follows, or you honestly set it lower and get up more often instead.

The second posture

Sit the other way round: chest to the backrest, forearms resting on it. For reading, drawing or at a workbench this is a position in its own right – and the reason the Capisco looks the way it does. On the 8107, take the headrest off for it.

Getting used to it

One to two weeks. Alternate with standing in the first few days and readjust the height after a few days – almost everyone then sets it higher.
